The Dutch Delegation. First general assembly

By Jan Wouters sscc                                                English / Español

On the 5th of April almost all the members of the Dutch Delegation came together for the first general ‘assembly’ of the Delegation, since the erection of the delegation in October last year. According to the statute of the delegation such a meeting will be held twice a year.

Felipe Lazcano represented the General Superior who could not be present because of other obligations.
The first part of the day was a meeting of the enlarged delegation council, that means of all the brothers who could come that day to Teteringen. Jan Munsters, the superior of the delegation, presided the meeting. Also present were Mr. Alex Aarts, the Econome of our delegation, and Mrs. Corrie van den Brand who is the one responsible for the care of the sick and elderly brothers.
The most important point of the agenda was an exchange of views about our PARL, in particular about the following four points:
1. To keep our brotherly community alive - living together as older religious;
2. To keep the inspiration of Father Damian alive;
3. To keep our missionary spirit alive;
4. To keep our religious inspiration alive.

The exchange of views was very open and interesting.
Mrs. Corrie van den Brand informed us about the new political vision on the care for the sick and old people. As in nearly all facets of the Dutch society, the budget for health care is dramatically lowered by the Dutch government. Many houses for elderly people were already closed or have to be closed due to lack of money. A lot of old and even very old people are sent ‘home’; meaning ‘to their children’.
Fortunately our Econome could tell us that our financial situation is ‘healthy’. We do not have to be afraid that we would need to close our own home for the elderly brothers. Apart from this, we are still able to subsidize quite a number of missionary institutions, including our own Congregation as the first priority.
Felipe gave us some information about the situation in other delegations, and in the provinces with diminishing in members.
The last point of the meeting was a sharing about different items, among others the Congregation-wide adoration on the 10th of May, the Feast of Damian De Veuster.
After the meeting we continued talking and chatting, more in the context of ‘happy hour’ and a tasty meal. And then…it was time for rest or going home.
 PS. Because nobody took any photo during the day I am sending a picture showing how lively the day was.

La Delegación Holandesa. Primera asamblea general
